Surges and counter-attacks

09/02/2022

Five milestones of the 2021 Milano-Sanremo: surges and counter-attacks

306.6 km to go to Sanremo.

The peloton has just set off, leaving the Sforza Castle behind, and rolling through the city streets towards the start, 7,600 metres away. This is called the ‘neutralized’ zone. However, these kilometres do add up in the legs of the riders. And especially in their heads, as they begin working out their race strategy, fighting to gain the best position, looking out not to miss a breakaway, or even just to stay out of trouble, waiting to go off.

Past the start, it will be a lengthy ride of 299 kilometres, and the race will turn into a maelstrom, with surges and counter-attacks. The turmoil will only be over after the first breakaway has eventually escaped.

Who will be the first ones to kick clear at the 2022 Milano-Sanremo?
